Conforme prometido (sem atrasos :P), foi lançado, hoje, O [tag]Ubuntu[/tag] 6.06 LTS.

Já venho usando as versões de testes e a beta do Ubuntu 6.x (codinome: Dapper) há algum tempo e posso afirmar que esta é a melhor distribuição/versão do Linux, disponível para desktop.

Algumas novidades desta versão incluem:

[tag]LTS[/tag] - Long Term Support, que é o suporte a atualizações de segurança por 5 anos, ou seja, caso monte uma infra-estrutura com o Ubuntu 6.x na sua empresa, poderá contar com patches de segurança por 5 anos, sem ter que modificar em nada as máquinas, basta deixar a atualização automática ligada e um acesso a internet
Maior compatibilidade com [tag]Notebooks[/tag] - Foi feito um trabalho muito intenso, desde o lançamento da versão 5.x (codinome Breezy) para que o Ubuntu funcionasse muito bem em notebooks e o trabalho deu resultados, em meu notebook, por exemplo, a única coisa que não funciona imediatamente após a instalação é a rede wireless, que tenho que instalar o driver para a placa de rede (da mesma forma que faria com qualquer outro sis tema operacional).
Simplificação da criação de uma instalação base para [tag]servidores[/tag] - A mesma facilidade de se ter o Ubuntu funcionando em um desktop, portada para o ambiente de servidores, com um único comando, será instalado um ambiente [tag]LAMP[/tag], o que vai facilitar bastante quem possui muitos servidores, em média, se leva 75 minutos para deixar o desktop pronto para uso (incluindo uma série de aplicativos necessários ao dia-a-dia), imagine poder deixar cada servidor pronto no mesmo tempo.
Suporte pago - Uma opção sempre solicitada, principalmente, por empresas é uma empresa responsável pelo suporte ao [tag]Linux[/tag], a [tag]Canonical[/tag], sempre ofereceu este suporte, porém nesta versão, a variedade de plataformas suportadas aumentou bastante, incluindo os baseados nos processadores UltraSPARC, com parceria com a própria SUN.
Como nota, gostaria de acrescentar que este suporte pago está disponível para desktops, também, a partir de US$ 250,00 por ano
Novo mecanismo para distribuição de software comercial - com parceria com empresas como Arkeia, Raining Data e VMware, com outros sendo planejados para adição nos próximos meses, o que é ótimo, pois estimulará grandes desenvolvedores que não têm interesse em disponibilizar seus softwares gratuitamente a criarem ferramentas específicas para o Ubuntu e facilitará bastante que o usuário instale aplicativos pagos no Ubuntu, o que era bastante complicado, até hoje, em qualquer distribuição do Linux.
Apenas um CD - Antes o Ubuntu vinha com um CD para instalação e outro para execução sem instalação, agora o próprio LiveCD pode fazer a instalação, menos complicada para explicar, quando você dá o CD para alguém :).
E muitas outras novidades que tornam o Ubuntu uma opção séria e válida para qualquer usuário ou empresa.

Se você não tiver uma conexão banda larga ou mesmo se preferir ter o CD, por qualquer motivo, peça - os e receba gratuitamente, em sua casa.
você pode fazer o download em um dos vários servidores espalhados pelo mundo (incluindo o Brasil).
Você pode fazer a atualização de várias maneiras, as mais fáceis:
1. Se você utiliza a versão 5.10, atualize o sistema, depois abra o update-manager e clique no botão verificar
2. Se você já usa o beta, não precisa fazer nada, basta deixar a atualização automática fazer o serviço por você
