Quem usa o Linux há muito tempo e/ou com muita freq�ência, acaba se deparando com coisas estranhas quando vai utilizar o Windows.

Essa semana comprei uma licença do Windows XP, que estava em promoção na Kalunga, como eu estava precisando mesmo para um software que só roda no Windows, fui em frente e comprei, já que sou avesso a pirataria.

Tenho encontrado várias dificuldades em fazer um monte de coisas que são extremamente simples no Linux e por coincidência, essa semana achei 3 artigos muito interessantes sobre o assunto.

Is MS Windows ready for the desktop? indicado pelo Prog em um post no AjudaLinux - Está em inglês e mostra de forma bem humorada, como alguém que nunca usou o Windows se sentiria.
Linux x Windows indicado pelo Gustavo Paes, é um artigo muito interessante que mostra a comparação do desktop Windows versus o do Linux, tela-a-tela.
Conectiva e Freedows, alternativas ao Windows, também indicado pelo Gustavo, já mostra o caminho contrário, as primeiras impressões de alguém que sempre usou o Windows e passou para o Linux.

Analisando os 3 artigos, nota - se claramente, que quando um usuário Windows passa para uma distribuição Linux atual, se sente surpreso com os novos recursos e em geral bastante feliz com a novidade.

Quando um usuário Linux migra para o Windows, também se surpreende, mas com a falta de coisas e dificuldades de resolver problemas e achar softwares, sim, a não ser que deseje gastar uma fortuna, dificilmente terá software para tudo que precisa.

Tenho que admitir que na área de autoria de DVDs e para rodar o software que eu preciso, o Windows resolveu meu problema.

A parte do DVD, graças a um pacote de softwares que veio junto com o gravador, que custaria uma fortuna se tivesse que comprar cada um e software, graças ao .NET ter sido criado pela própria MS ;).

Em todo resto, tenho encontrado uma grande dificuldade em fazer as coisas, cito algumas:

Configuração de hardware - apesar de minha máquina ser bastante atualizada e os periféricos, também, vários itens só começaram a funcionar depois de horas caçando drivers e alguns nem funcionam ainda, sendo que todos foram reconhecidos na instalação pelo Ubuntu 5.10.
Estrutura de diretórios - Ainda fico meio perdido, fora que não tem muita flexibilidade.
Configuração de Aplicativos - Cada um é configurado em um lugar, uma bagunça só e, normalmente, tem que clicar em um monte de lugares para chegar a configurações simples.
Gerenciador de Janelas - Complicado… Não posso fixar uma janela, só tem um desktop, se eu quiser abrir uma nova seção com outro usuário, sou obrigado a sair da atual etc…
Segurança - triste é o único adjetivo que consigo pensar, usando o XP por uma semana, mais ou menos, umas 2 horas por dia, já contrai inúmeros virus, mesmo testando 2 antivírus diferentes, descobri, também, que a conta de administrador não tem senha :o, firewall é uma brincadeira, até uma criança de 5 anos invade…
Aplicativos - Como é difícil achar e instalar aplicativos, não existe um repositório central, então você tem duas opções:
1. Compra em uma loja
2. Caça a internet para achar o que quer

Depois de usar o Linux por tanto tempo, não estou conseguindo me dar muito bem com o Windows, falta muita coisa e esses artigos mostram que não sou só eu que tenho esse problema =)).

Tenho que, diversas vezes, recorrer ao Linux, para fazer as coisas, então não é possível viver sem o mesmo.

A sorte é que o retorno do uso do software que eu preciso, paga a licença do XP, caso contrário, teria jogado dinheiro fora.
